Whenever we survey our youth, getting outdoors is always a frequent response. We try to open their horizon and experience something that is different, challenging, but rewarding.
Beside the benefits to our mental health that being outdoors and experiencing nature can bring us, a primary goal of our Bear Tracks program is to get our youth outdoor to encourage a more active lifestyle and decrease the likelihood of chronic health issues like childhood obesity and diabetes.
Another goal of our program is to educate our youth on principles of environmental responsibility like Leave no Trace Principles, and how we can protect these precious resources that we all need to survive on this shared planet.
Over the years, we have partnered with a number of agencies to bring this kind of opportunity to our youth. This year we will be partnering with CA State Parks to provide a number of outdoor activities and expose our youth to the richness, and diversity of our State Park system. This grant is to get more people into the State Parks, and we are removing some of the challenges by gearing up our group with the basics for outdoor recreation.
